With the participation of Turkish Republic President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the exhibition Pioneers of Modern Science - History of Islamic Science and Technology was opened at Istanbul Airport. Also the closing ceremony of “2019, Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Year” was held and the 50 millionth passenger of Istanbul Airport, the Kobanbay family, was presented a gift.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thanked the curators of the exhibition Pioneers of Modern Science-History of Islamic Science and Technology and the management of Istanbul Airport. 

During the ceremony, a presentation ceremony was held for the Kobanbay family, the 50 millionth passenger of Istanbul Airport, attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee M. İlker Aycı, and airport officials. The Kobanbay family was presented with international round-trip tickets for four people to be used within a year and IGA pass membership cards. 

The year 2019 was declared as “Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Year” in order to commemorate Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin who specialised in the history of Arabic-Islamic science. The commemorative year ended with a closing ceremony at Istanbul Airport attended by Republic of Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following almost a thousand events held in Fuat Sezgin’s memory in more than 16 countries around the world.
