Turkish Airlines and Istanbul Modern have collaborated to introduce Turkish modern art to the rest of the world. A selection from the collection of Istanbul Modern Art Museum meets with passengers at Istanbul Airport Turkish Airlines Private Passenger Lounge as of May 3.

Within the scope of the project, developed by the cooperation of Turkish Airlines and Istanbul Modern, the exhibition is titled as A Selection from the Istanbul Modern Art Museum Collection and on display at a venue of 130 square meters. The exhibition brings together important pieces that reflect four main trends in Turkish modern art. The selection in the exhibition will be renewed three times a year 

From Landscapes to Abstraction 

The exhibition features various examples from the landscape painting tradition of the beginning of the 20th century to the abstract paintings of artists who were searching for a way to combine eastern and western art in the1950s. A selection of works that visualize the place of figurative painting in daily life, and compositions that interpret the cultural values of Anatolia from a new perspective will be on display at the exhibition for passengers. 

The selection features the works of Şeref Akdik, Hakkı Anlı, Fethi Arda, Ferruh Başağa, Hasan Vecih Bereketoğlu, Aliye Berger, Nurullah Berk, Adnan Çoker, Nejad Melih Devrim, Abidin Dino, Neş'e Erdok, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Hoca Ali Rıza, Hikmet Onat, Selim Turan, and Fahrelnissa Zeid. 

Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee M. İlker Aycı stated about the  exhibition: “As the flag carrier airline, we continue to contribute to the national values of our country. Thanks to our cooperation with Istanbul Modern, we will exhibit our impressive modern artworks in our private passenger lounge and we will send our guests off to 124 countries in our flight network with Turkish modern art. The exhibition will be an artistic touch to your privileged travel experience, and we will renew the artworks within the year to bring our passengers together with new art pieces on the different journeys they take. We expect you to discover the modern examples of Turkish art in the center of global aviation”. 

A Contribution to the Promotion of Turkish Modern Art 

Oya Eczacıbaşı, chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Modern, stated that the private passenger lounge that welcomes guests from all over the world is an outstanding venue for promoting Turkey. 

Eczacıbaşı continued by stating, “We are delighted to introduce Turkish modern art to Turkish and foreign tourists who will be waiting for their flights in the International Business Lounge with our cooperation with Turkish Airlines. We will renew the works of art from the Istanbul Modern collection three times a year in order to bring together the works of different periods and artists with the passengers. With these exhibitions, we will be introducing Turkish art to the whole world while ensuring that the waiting passengers will be spending their time more efficiently with a touch of art”.
