One of the most prestigious sports awards in Turkey, the 65th Gillette Milliyet Athletes of the Year Awards were distributed to their recipients. The national flag carrier received the Erdoğan Demirören Grand Prize.

Held since 1954 and sponsored by Gillette for the fourth time, the 65th Gillette Milliyet Athletes of the Year Awards were presented to the recipients at the ceremony at Volkswagen Arena.
The best of 2018 were invited to the stage at the 65th meeting of the longest poll in the world history of sports. Attended by the Republic of Turkey Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu, the ceremony hosted the presentation of the Erdoğan Demirören Grand Prize, given in memory of businessman Erdoğan Demirören who passed away last year, to Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee M. İlker Aycı on behalf of the company by Demirören Holding Chairman of the Board Yıldırım Demirören and Demirören Holding Deputy Chairman Meltem Demirören Oktay.
The revenue collected as a result of the poll participated by nearly 13 million people for 42 nominees in seven categories will be used to buy “sports equipment for 35,000 students.”
The Republic of Turkey Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu made a speech at the ceremony and said, “For 17 years, we have strived to make Turkey a sports country. With the leadership of our President, we have made many investments to support sports in Turkey. I can easily say that our effort to open sports facilities in recent years has no precedent in the world. We have the youngest sports facilities in Europe.”
