Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee M. İlker Aycı stated that the complete opening of Istanbul Airport will increase the momentum of both Istanbul and Turkish Airlines and will have positive consequences on the entire aviation industry.

Emphasizing that this giant project will begin its complete service after Turkish Airlines has moved all its operations to Istanbul Airport, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee M. İlker Aycı said, “Istanbul Airport, which will breathe new life into the industry, will carry Turkish aviation further in terms of quantity and quality. Turkey will become one of the world’s most important commercial aviation hubs. Turkish Airlines bears great responsibility in terms of the seamless operation of Istanbul Airport, the mega transport hub which will be the locomotive for the development of the Turkish aviation industry.”
Underlining that the opening of Istanbul Airport will increase both the number of passengers and the amount of cargo, M. İlker Aycı said the cargo capacity of 2.5 million tons of the first phase will reach 5.5 million tons by the time all phases are complete. Based on its yearly cargo capacity, Istanbul Airport will turn the city into the world’s biggest cargo city.
Stating that Turkey will soon be amongst the top 10 nations in terms of passenger numbers, Aycı announced that the added value of Istanbul Airport, which is expected to contribute greatly to economic growth, will reach 73 billion Turkish Liras, about 4.9% of the country’s gross national product, by 2025.
