Topkapı Palace has been home to some of the most prized relics of the Islamic world ever since Sultan Selim I.  Now Sevgi Ağca, who is responsible for the Palace’s Department of Sacred Relics, has written a book entitled “The Department of the Mantle of the Prophet and its Organization, Ceremonies and Sacred Relics”. In his introduction to the book, Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı underscores how the book “more than merely offering the reader an inventory of the sacred relics” instead chronicles “the people and events that made those relics sacred by considering their significance in thousands of years of Islamic thought”.
