HÜSEYIN FAHREDDIN DEDE WAS A PROMINENT 19TH CENTURY “NEYZEN” AND COMPOSER AS WELL AS THE SHEIKH OF THE BEŞIKTAŞ MEVLEVI LODGE. NOW, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, ANDELIB IS PERFORMING THE MASTER’S ACEMAŞIRAN ÂYIN-I ŞERIFI ON ORIGINAL PERIOD INSTRUMENTS.
One of the leading works in the religious music repertoire, Hüseyin Fahreddin Dede’s Acemaşiran Âyin-i Şerif is being played by “Andelib”, a duo formed in 1997 by Hüseyin Özkılıç and Hulûsi Babalık. Inspired by a study on hypnosis and the Mevlevi whirling ceremony by Dr. Ali Özden Öztürk, the two are bringing out their first album using the ney (traditional reed flute) and the tambur (classical lute). Hüseyin Fahreddin Dede was one of the greatest reed flute artists of his time, and his composition in the Acemişiran mode, which is the sole piece of Mevlevi music he composed, is considered one of the most important works in the Turkish Music repertoire. Mevlana’s teachings of tolerance and brotherhood add special meaning to the album.
