All eyes are on the vote to be taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on September 7th in Buenos Aires. İstanbul is competing with Tokyo and Madrid to host the Games. And the city’s “Bridge Together” Olympics slogan lays emphasis on its unique location uniting continents and cultures.

THE OLYMPICS STEP BY STEP
August 13, 2011: Previously a candidate for the 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, Istanbul officially announces its candidacy for the 5th time, this time for the 2020 Olympics.
May 23, 2012: Istanbul is declared a Candidate City along with Tokyo and Madrid by the IOC Board of Directors.
March 2013: The IOC Evaluation Commission conducts on-site inspections of the candidate cities, Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul, in March .
June 25, 2013: The IOC Evaluation Commission submits its technical report.
July 4, 2013: Istanbul draws attention, big-time, at the 2020 Olympics Candidate Cities Technical Briefing in Lausanne.
September 7, 2103: The city that will host the 2020 Olympics will be determined by a vote in Buenos Aires.
