Turkish Airlines has released its figures for January-February of 2013 and 2014:
-     Passenger numbers, which were 6.4 million in Jan-Feb 2013, rose by 22.1% to 7.8 million in Jan-Feb of 2014.
-     Passenger occupancy rose by 0.4 of a point to 76.9%.
-     The number of cities flown to, which was 219 at the end of February 2013, was up to 243 by the end of February 2014.
-     The airline’s planes, which numbered 211 at the end of February 2013, numbered 237 by the end of February 2014.

Expanding Codeshare With Singapore Airlines

The existing codeshare agreement between Turkish Airlines and Singapore Airlines, both members of Star Alliance, is being expanded to include travel destinations in Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific. Under the agreement, which is expected to go into effect in May, Turkish Airlines passengers will be able to fly to even more destinations.

THE 50TH ANNUAL TURKEY PRESIDENTIAL CYCLING TOUR IS OFFERING SPORTS FANS AN UNFORGETTABLE FEST FOR 8 STRAIGHT DAYS.

Buoyed up with primary sponsorship by Turkish Airlines, the Turkey Presidential Cycling Tour kicks off in Alanya on April 27. The tour, which covers a 1,254-kilometer course in 8 stages, is being broadcast live in 76 countries. A total of 168 athletes are competing in the tour in which 21 different teams are taking part. Torku Şekerspor is representing Turkey in the tour, which wraps up with a spectacular finish in Istanbul on May 4.

TURKISH AIRLINES WELCOMED VISITORS AT ITB, ONE OF EUROPE'S AND THE WORLD'S BIGGEST TOURISM FAIRS.

Realized with the participation of close to 11,000 firms from 180 countries, the fair was visited by upwards of 170,000 visitors. The Turkish Airlines stand, a big hit with participants for its Lounge Istanbul concept, stood out as one of the fair’s most successful. Upwards of 100 participants, all members of the Turkish Airlines family from various points around the world, were welcomed at the stand. The fair, where the seeds of many long-term partnerships were sown in parallel with the airline’s global market momentum, made a major contribution to Turkish civil aviation.

THE FIRST PLANE EQUIPPED WITH A TCI-PRODUCED GALLEY HAS BEEN DELIVERED.

Turkish Cabin Interior (TCI), a Turkish Airlines - Turkish Technic, Inc. - TAI partnership, has produced Turkey’s first galley. The design of the kitchen, or “galley” in international aviation terminology, is due entirely to Turkish engineers. Beyond storage and food service, the galleys aim to improve the passenger experience through efficiency, interior design and comfort.
Taking steps to enlarge its footprint in the aviation sector, TCI is making an important contribution to the global supply chain in terms of capacity, capability and distinctiveness through its partnership with Boeing.
The Boeing 737-800, on which the first galley produced by TCI to international standards has been integrated, was delivered in a grand ceremony attended by officials of both airlines. Speaking at the ceremony, Turkish Airlines’ Chairman of the Board and of the Executive Committee Hamdi Topçu drew attention to the development by the Turkish aviation industry in the global arena, saying, “Improving the quality of our service and contributing to the global aviation industry are among our primary goals.”

THE FIRST AIRLINE SEAT DESIGNED IN TURKEY BY TURKISH ENGINEERS HAS GONE INTO PRODUCTION BY TURKISH SEATS INDUSTRIES (TSI).

A partnership involving Turkish Airlines, Turkish Technic, Inc. and Assan Hanil,  Turkish Seats Industries recently chalked up another first in Turkish civil aviation history. The project, the seeds of which were sown at a factory set up in Izmit in September 2011, has already started bearing fruit. All phases of concept development and design, including the automation and software for the airplane seats, was realized in Turkey. Oriented towards customer satisfaction with their ergonomic features and the comfortable travel environment they offer passengers, the seats will find a place first on the Boeing 739-800 and immediately afterwards on the Airbus A319-320 and 321-type aircraft whose seats are ending their economic life.
Speaking at a promotional meeting for the TSI-designed airplane seats hosted by Turkish Airlines at Ataturk Airport, the airline’s Chairman of the Board and of the Executive Committee, Hamdi Topçu, said, “TSI’s basic vision is to offer the best solutions in the areas of comfort, aesthetics, security and logistics in the airplane passenger seat sector,” thereby laying emphasis on TSI’s vision.
