The Couplets From Reed To Paper
SOHEİLA K. ESFAHANİ’S JOURNEY FROM TEHRAN TO CANADA İS ECHOED İN HER ART. THE ARTİST BRİNGS TOGETHER THE LİTERARY FORM OF THE EAST AND THE ABSTRACT AESTHETİC OF THE WEST.
Having moved from her birthplace, Tehran, to Canada in 1992, Soheila K. Esfahani has placed Rumî’s Mesnevi at the forefront of her works. She visualizes the couplets of the Mesnevi, spiritual guidance provided in poetic form.
She says that in her works she emphasizes searching for desire rather than finding it; her main goal is to achieve a harmony between the overlapping contents and form of the couplets that overlap. She is now a lecturer at Waterloo University in Canada, and her style appeals both to those who love traditional and more abstract art elements.
