ONE OF THE WORLD’S LEADING BIENNIALS, THE ISTANBUL BIENNIAL IS COMING TO ART LOVERS THIS YEAR FOR THE 13TH TIME.
The theme of this year’s biennial, curated by Fulya Erdemci, is “Mom, am I a Barbarian?”, taken from Lale Müldür’s book of the same name. The biennial shows are open to visitors free of charge, September 14 to October 20.
Some particularly noteworthy artists in the 13th Istanbul Biennial:
Paris-based Bertille Bak examines group dynamics under various social conditions in his work.
Portuguese Carla Filipe treats social histories through personal memories and experiences.
Martin Cordiano & Tomás Espina
Cordiano and Espina, who met in 2011, make reference to recent Argentine history through the materials they use.
Fernando Piola, who is interested in the social situations that arise in public places, lives in São Paulo.
What stands out in Héctor Zamora’s work is that he tries to recreate the spatio-societal relationship with his interventions in urban spaces.
